How Live Map Displays Route Shapes

Follow

Live Map keeps your view focused on current operations by showing only the route shapes that are relevant to the next few days of service. This keeps the map from being cluttered with older shapes or shapes that aren't in service yet.

What you'll see on Live Map

Live Map displays route shapes within a rolling 5-day window that includes:

  • Yesterday
  • Today
  • The next 3 days

Example: If you log in on a Friday, Live Map shows the shapes that are active between Thursday and Monday.

Why yesterday's shapes still appear

When a shape is no longer active — for example, after a schedule change — it stays visible on the map for one additional day. This provides a short transition window before the shape is removed from view.

How Swiftly decides whether a shape is active

Swiftly determines shape activity using your agency's scheduled service data (GTFS):

  • Any shape with scheduled service at any point during the 5-day window will appear on Live Map.
  • Shapes are evaluated by the full day, not by the hour. A shape scheduled from 8:00 AM to 11:00 AM is considered active for the entire day — there are no hourly updates to what's shown.

Quick reference

Shown on Live Map:

  • Shapes that were active yesterday
  • Shapes that are active today
  • Shapes scheduled for the next 3 days

Not shown on Live Map:

  • Shapes last active 2 or more days ago
  • Shapes scheduled more than 3 days out (they'll appear once they enter the 5-day window)
