If you're trying to figure out why some vehicles are missing from your feed, or Live Operations use the following troubleshooting steps to find your missing vehicle.
✅ Double-check vehicle status in Live Operations
Make sure you've enabled the "Show Unassigned" toggle. Vehicles that are not assigned to a block or trip may be hidden by default unless this option is selected.
🔍 Search for the vehicle
Use the search bar to locate the vehicle by name, ID, or other identifiers. Sometimes vehicles appear under unexpected statuses like:
- Unassigned
- Performance Unavailable
- Off Route
You can learn more about what each of these statuses means here.
🔧 Check the Admin Panel (if available)
If you are the agency’s Admin, you can use it to confirm:
- Whether the GPS device is online
- When the last signal was received
- If there have been recent changes to the mapping configuration
🛠 Consider recent hardware or mapping changes
If the vehicle's onboard device was replaced or reassigned, it may appear incorrectly in Swiftly. Confirm that:
- The new device is correctly mapped to the vehicle in Swiftly
- The vehicle ID or naming conventions haven’t changed unexpectedly
📡 Check with your AVL provider
If you're using a third-party AVL or GTFS-rt feed, reach out to your provider to confirm:
- The feed is up and running
- Your subscription is current
- There are no known outages or mapping issues
- The vehicle is on but stationary: Swiftly filters out unassigned vehicle data for stationary vehicles for long periods. If a vehicle is on but hasn't moved in a specified time and is not assigned to a trip or scheduled block, you will likely not see it on the Live Operations product
- GPS tracker not receiving power: If the vehicle is turned off, the GPS tracker will not receive power from its main source. This could also mean the tracker was not properly installed in the vehicle
- GPS tracker is not able to connect to the cellular network: In some cases, a Swiftly tracker may not be able to connect to a cellular network. Trackers use the cellular network to transmit location data to Swiftly. This can occur in very remote, rural areas or in deep valleys
- GTFS-rt feed may be down: Your supplied GTFS-rt feed may be down. Swiftly will be prevented from receiving continuous location data if your feed vendor has connectivity issues
🆕 Is this a new vehicle?
If the vehicle has recently entered service, ensure it’s been fully integrated into Swiftly. This includes:
- Proper mapping of the hardware device to the vehicle in Swiftly
- GTFS block/trip associations, if applicable
