Overview of our GTFS Intake Process

When your agency integrates with Swiftly, we will ask for a static GTFS file with a "fetch location" – usually via a URL or file transfer – where your agency will post updates and changes to your GTFS. Once Swiftly has access to your GTFS and a fetch location, updating future changes and updates to your service in the Swiftly Dashboard will be automatic. 

The GTFS intake process is automatic, and every few hours our system will scan your GTFS fetch location. If it detects a change in your static GTFS files, the Dashboard will process and update your changes. This is a frequent process, and typically once you upload a new GTFS file you should see it reflected in the platform the next day. 

FAQs About GTFS Intake

What is the process behind the scenes for intaking new GTFS?

When the system detects a change to your GTFS files, it requires a reboot to your agency's dashboard. Rebooting means that your dashboard will be down for a few minutes. Because of this outage, processing and intaking a new GTFS file will happen late at night there is no transit service. We do this to avoid any dashboard problems during peak service hours. 

How long does it take once a new GTFS file is posted to show up in the Swiftly Dashboard?

In most cases, if your updated or changed GTFS file is posted during business hours, the dashboard will update later that same night. This means you should see updated GTFS in your account the next morning. 

In some instances, if your updated GTFS is uploaded to your fetch location late at a night, the changes might not be loaded and processed on your Swiftly Dashboard till the following evening. If this is the situation, it might take another day for your updated GTFS to show up in your dashboard.

How do I tell what version of our GTFS is being used right now?
